According to Symantec, the cyber security company, Whatsapp hacking is easily possible by the attackers by MEDIA FILE JACKING which is due to some permissions enabled in Whatsapp by default and there is no control of the user over it to disable it.

Symantec have mentioned that it is possible of Whatsapp getting hacked is due to allowance of media file storage in the external storage thus leaving our system vulnerable to attack through MEDIA FILE JACKING ATTACK.
An attacker can modify or alter the data file whether it be Photos, Videos, Document or even Voice Memos thus affecting the users privacy.
MEDIA FILE JACKING is possible only when there is time lapse or delay when there is any transmission of data means sending or receiving media contents. The time gap between transmission gives enough opportunity for attacker to do his job.
End-to-End encryption works flawlessly only if there is no problem at the App level.

Android developer team is working over it and it would most probably get fixed in the upcoming updates of Android Q with the help of a very specific feature called "Scoped Storage" as the problem is only because Whatsapp uses External Storage to save Media Files.
